The Deceptive Origins of Reiki: A Warning for Christians

Reiki has often been misrepresented as compatible with Christianity, but its roots tell a very different story. In the 1930s, Hawayo Takata falsely claimed that Mikao Usui, the inventor of Reiki, was a Christian seminary professor—a fabrication she later admitted was necessary to make Reiki more acceptable to Christians. Other misleading claims include the blasphemous notion that Jesus practiced Reiki or that biblical laying on of hands refers to Reiki. In truth, Mikao Usui was a Japanese shaman who claimed to receive visions of mystical symbols that supposedly allowed people to channel “universal life force energy.” While Reiki can produce effects that some interpret as healing or peace, its spiritual origins are incompatible with the Bible. In this video, former Reiki Master Doreen Virtue and ex-psychic Jenn Nizza expose the spiritual dangers of Reiki and why Christians should avoid it.
