Evangelist Shane Pruitt has sparked a conversation after sharing his thoughts on pop star Taylor Swift’s latest album, urging Christian parents to exercise discernment. “I’m not anti-Taylor,” Pruitt told CBN News. “I’m pro-Gospel.” His goal? To lovingly address influences that seem to challenge Gospel values.
On April 22, Pruitt tweeted about some lyrics on Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department, raising concerns about their anti-Christian tone. He emphasized that while he’s not against secular music, there’s a significant difference between being secular and being openly anti-Christian.
In his tweet, Pruitt highlighted lyrics referencing people in “Sunday best” who “try to save you ’cause they hate you” and others that appear to twist Christian themes. He challenged believers to consider whether it’s appropriate to enjoy music that mocks their faith, especially when it’s influencing impressionable young listeners.
Pruitt also noted how Swift’s music has shifted over the years, becoming darker and more explicit, which he finds troubling given its impact on young audiences. He called on Christian parents to be mindful of what they and their children are consuming, urging them to align their entertainment choices with their faith.
This isn’t the only issue Pruitt addresses. He also points to idolatry—whether it’s sports, celebrities, or other cultural icons—as a struggle for many Christians. While Biblical teachings on sexuality or marriage may receive bold “Amens,” discussing misplaced priorities often faces resistance, especially within the American Church.
Watch as Shane Pruitt shares his perspective on discernment, idolatry, and the importance of Gospel-centered living in today’s culture.
